Magento Ecommerce was developed by California-based Varien and is a freely available, fully featured ecommerce platform.
Varien wanted to put merchants in control of their own websites and remove their reliance on development professionals for updates and changes. We agree and believe that Magento represents the next generation of e-commerce platforms, having seen rapid development since it's launch in 2008.
