Top 5 Social plugins for Magento Stores
Becki Griffiths / July 28, 2015
No one can deny that social media is influencing people’s online purchasing journey, with the top 500 retailers earning $3.3 billion from social shopping in 2014. so it’s vitally important your store is set up to allow for this.
I’ll be looking at 5 great Magento plugins to help make your customers’ social journey the best it can be. I’d love to hear from you on your experiences with these plugins or any others you can recommend.
A common customer complaint is lengthy sign in forms to create accounts. The more steps to complete before the final purchase is made, the more options for the customer to drop out of the sales funnel.
It’s important to note, that there should always be an option to sign in just with an email address, as some customers do not like using their social platforms for this purpose, or they may not be on any social networks.
With this plugin the signup process is streamlined by allowing the customer to sign in with a choice of 18 social networks. Customers simply click their prefered network login. Simples!
AddThis allows your content to be shared across over 330 social networks. Allowing your products to be shared on social networks easily means your conversion rate could go up as more eyes will be seeing your product.
AddThis takes away the need for a customer to copy and paste a url in order to share your product, all they need to do is click the sharing icon and away they go! We used AddThis on our build for Cowshed.
Beetailer is actually a whole social commerce platform, allowing your store to be integrated with Facebook, Twitter & Google+.
It’s most widely used for it’s Facebook functionality, which let’s customers browse your store through Facebook but then checkout within your store seamlessly.
Sweet Tooth is an all-singing-all-dancing loyalty programme, but the element I’m looking at is you can encourage customers to earn additional rewards through social sharing or writing a product review.
These actions boost your products, and can encourage others to purchase the same product, increasing conversions. They also allow customers to earn rewards from socially sharing their purchase (although this doesn’t look as visually appealing.)
Social is in its simplest form is conversation, so as a retailer you need to join the conversation, and what better way to do this than having comments enabled on your website.
Disqus is a great plugin that allows comments, both on products and also on blogs. We use Disqus on the Magazine section of the Fenwick website we built.

It is important to note that some third party extensions may affect the performance of your site and so the positives and negatives must be evaluated before installing such plugins. If in doubt always contact an expert, we’d be happy to help.
