NESTA, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts launched creative credits to help businesses develop their ideas by teaming up with creative firms.
Creative firms based in Manchester can apply to be part of the scheme, to supply the design services to participating companies. We created a directory of these creative companies where they could advertise their skills and past works. Firms are imported via spreadsheets into the SilverStripe admin system, an account for each is automatically created and notified by email. Firms can then login and upload details of past work and a description of their company. Participating companies browse the gallery of creative firm and filter or search the results based on various criteria.
The site was designed by Kent Lyons and based on the SilverStripe content management system. We created a solution that allowed creative firms to edit their details in the front end as well as giving NESTA complete control of the site through the standard CMS.
As part of the testing for the site we used Load Storm to simulate 150 concurrent users, which SilverStripe handled with ease.
The initial scheme is set to run for a year and was officially launched on the 9th September 2009. Within the first 2 weeks, 150 creative firms in Manchester signed up.
